Granted, it is hard to get up at 5:40 AM on a cold Saturday morning in February, but I'd been thinking about doing this location shoot for about two years. And the snow-covered ice on the reservoir would be the "icing" on the (cold) cake. I was also looking for excuses to test the new Olympus OM-D E-M1 camera body that was my major (early) Christmas present (from myself).
My skin and feet were covered sufficiently for the dry, 22 degree air along the lake's shore, but I didn't have special fingertip-less gloves for this kind of session so the digits were getting stiff by the end. The local waterfowl and upland birds were waking up and flying by as time passed. The traffic on Genito Road picked up quickly, too.
I took about 100 images as the sun slowly rose. About half of those were to test the E-M1's several in-camera HDR functions. Here's one of the "HDR-1" (I think) JPEGs with minor PS Level and Saturation adjustments.
